Am 13.05.2027 veranstaltet der Lehrstuhl für Britische Literaturwissenschaften eine Lesung mit der britischen Autorin Jacqueline Roy. Roy hat drei Romane für Erwachsene veröffentlicht, die die Position von Frauen und nicht-weißen Menschen in britischen Infrastrukturen in den Blick nehmen, während sie die Lesenden zu Empathie mit den komplexen Charakteren aufrufen. The Fat Lady Sings (2000) erzählt von zwei Schwarzen, britischen Psychiatriepatientinnen, The Gosling Girl (2022) greift strukturelle Vorurteile im britischen Polizei- und Rechtsapparat auf und In Memory of Us (2024) beschäftigt sich mit der Repräsentation von Migration nach Großbritannien. Die Lesung, finanziert durch den Fördertopf für kulturelle Angelegenheiten, soll dem Dialog zwischen Ländern und Kulturen dienen und einer wichtigen Autorin zu größerer Sichtbarkeit verhelfen.
In einer Unterhaltung mit Christina Slopek-Hauff wird Jacqueline Roy aus ihren drei Romanen lesen; in einer Q&A-Runde geht sie auch gerne auf Fragen der Gäste ein. Es wird ebenfalls möglich sein, ihre Bücher in der Buchhandlung zu erwerben und sie direkt signieren zu lassen.

Reading with Jacqueline Roy
On May 13, 2027, the section of British Literary Studies will host a reading with British author Jacqueline Roy at a local bookshop. Roy has published three novels for adults, which all engage critically with the position of women and racialized people in British infrastructures while asking the reader to empathize with the complex characters. The Fat Lady Sings (2000) tells the stories of two Black British women in a psychiatric ward, The Gosling Girl (2022) takes on structural bias in the British police and legal system and In Memory of Us (2024) reflects on the representation of immigrants to Britain. The reading, funded by the Fördertopf für kulturelle Angelegenheiten, contributes to the visibility of an important author and fosters dialog between different countries and cultures.
In conversation with Christina Slopek-Hauff, Jacqueline Roy will read from her three novels and respond to questions in a Q&A. You can also buy a copy of her books at the bookshop and get it signed right then and there!
